No, you don’t. We recommend doing a few lessons before buying a drumkit. That gives you a chance to see if you enjoy it before spending money. However, if you have the budget and you feel strongly after your first lesson that you are going to love it, then it won’t be a bad investment as you will progress a lot quicker having a kit to practice on.
That is a question that we get asked a lot, and it is possibly the hardest one to answer. It comes down to how far you would like to go. We have had students with us for as long as ten years. Like anything in life, drumming is a never-ending learning process, and no matter how long you play, you can always go further and carry on learning. Our lecturers have been playing the drums for many years and still learn new things all the time. It also depends on how serious you want to take drumming. If learning to jam your favourite song is enough for you then that is perfectly ok. If you want to become a professional drummer, then the process will take longer.
You don’t need to bring anything to your first class. We will provide you with a drum kit and drum sticks.
It depends on how long you can hold your concentration. We suggest starting with 30min and see how it goes. If you feel that you need more time and an hour class would suit you better, then you can change your package. We give you material to work on in the week, so it also depends on how much time you have to practice at home. We find that we can get enough done in the 30min class and able to give you enough to work on throughout the week. If you have more time during the week, then an hour class will be useful as we can give you more material to practice at home.
We do offer the Rockschool or Trinity syllabus if you would like to get your grades. We will prepare and get you ready for your exams. However, grading is not essential, so if you would like to learn the drums for fun and not worried about getting grades, then that is perfectly fine.
Absolutely. Learning to play the drums as a hobby is extremely fun and can be a great outlet from everyday life. It has proved to be a great stress reliever, as well.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! There is no age limit to learning how to play the drums. We have students take lessons with us that are as old as 75. We enjoy these lessons immensely. Learning how to play the drums could be something that you would like to tick off your bucket list. We would love to walk that journey with you regardless of your age.
That differs from each student as concentration spans vary. We find that anything younger than 4 years old is slightly too young. It also depends on a few factors like what you expect to get out of the lessons at such a young age. We explain to the parents that if they want to start their child at a super young age, then it is excellent as they get to grow up with music, but they also cannot expect rapid progression.
Big YES. We love teaching people from scratch. That is often better as we can teach you the right way from the beginning and don’t have to focus on fixing bad habits that may have gotten formed from learning on your own or with the wrong teacher.
